The idea of contradiction to give an image some kind of lingering effect on the mind. I was thinking of pontormo's entombment and it's festive pastels to be an early and powerful example of that sort of thing. hard to say what his political leanings were if any, but I think it's a tradition in image making that calls on the audience to dig a little deeper. you really push the limits with this bold graphic representation... it's cool to read what's going on behind the scenes. thanks! hi nate, I just read this and thought it was pretty terrific.
